SABIC Innovative Plastics Showcases Latest Breakthrough Material Technologies at Plastimagen 2010 for Key Growth Sectors in Mexico
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – March 23, 2010 – At Plastimagen Mexico 2010, SABIC Innovative Plastics is showcasing high-performance materials that can help accelerate growth in Mexico’s major manufacturing sectors and also provide a competitive advantage to smaller, local customers. At booth #4500, the company is exhibiting a broad range of highly advanced materials targeting Mexico’s vibrant automotive, aerospace and electronics industries, as well as solutions to replace traditional materials in re-emerging sectors such as furniture and lighting. SABIC Innovative Plastics offers Mexico an unmatched value proposition: a diverse product portfolio, local manufacturing in Tampico (Cycolac*, Cycoloy* and Geloy* resins) and San Luis Potosi (Valox* resins and LNP* specialty compounds), as well as distribution centres in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Laredo, Texas and a dedicated, in-country team of experts providing support to customers across the country.
As part of that value, SABIC Innovative Plastics is formally introducing Juan Signoret, regional general manager, Mexico, who leads the company’s high performance resins business in the region. Signoret commented, “Mexico’s manufacturing sector is growing steadily as OEMs, molders and contract manufacturers continue to seek newer advanced materials technologies to further drive this growth and differentiate their products. SABIC Innovative Plastics is meeting this demand with the highest performing, top quality, reliable, and innovative products on the market today. We are strongly committed to Mexico and look forward to strengthening our relationships with customers with our dedicated team and resources.”
SABIC Innovative Plastics Displays Material Solutions for Key Sectors
Mexico’s economy is showing strong growth, particularly in goods exported and expansion of the local manufacturing base. January 2010 auto exports increased 123 percent over January 2009 and total production increased 102 percent, its aerospace industry achieved double-digit growth over five years, and foreign investment in the electrical/electronics sector totaled more than $3.5 billion between 2000 and 2007, primarily in televisions and cell phones. In addition, the lighting and furniture industries are looking to leverage new global opportunities.
“With Mexico’s vehicle production up significantly this year, including record exports, plastics will play a key role in sustaining growth and ensuring an ongoing competitive advantage,” said Mauro Cruz, Automotive sales director, Mexico, SABIC Innovative Plastics. “We are proud of our huge portfolio of high performance thermoplastic materials for body panels, glazing, and interiors that help achieve weight-out, cycle time reduction, design flexibility, sustainability and aesthetics. Our proven solutions help enable our local customer’s continued growth and success.”
To demonstrate how its materials can meet the evolving requirements of Mexico’s key industries, SABIC Innovative Plastics is showcasing the following applications, among others:
• Buick Lacrosse floor console featuring STAMAX® long glass fiber polypropylene resin. The material delivers 10 to 15 percent cost savings and 20 percent mass reduction, and enables parts integration.
• Cadillac CTS Wagon liftgate spoiler made with Cycoloy PC/ABS resin. The material provides steel-like appearance and performance, high modulus and ductility, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) that allows tight cross-car body gaps.
• Aerospace tapestry made with non-halogenated Ultem* resin fibers. Ultem fibers offer inherent flame retardance, better dyeability than aramids, UV stability and chemical resistance.
• Ten Cate/Tubus Bauer honeycomb core made with Ultem resin. This thermoformable core material for aircraft interiors provides high strength and stiffness with less weight, and meets FAR 25.853 and the Ohio State University standard for flame/smoke/toxicity.
• Pace set-top box for DirecTV featuring Cycolac resin for the base and cover and Lexan resin for the lens and light pipes. Cycolac resin provides excellent gloss and surface finish, as well as impact resistance, at an attractive price. Crystal-clear Lexan resin provides optimal light diffusion.
• Grupo ECOS LED lamp featuring Lexan SLX resin. The material delivers superior UV resistance, including reduced color shift over time, and excellent abrasion and impact resistance.
