PPG integrates ‘Responsible Care’ into core business in China

BEIJING, May 29, 2008 – On behalf of PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG), Asia/Pacific Operations Director Raj Lall joined executives of 23 other international chemical companies here to sign a “Responsible Care Beijing Manifesto” sponsored by the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM).

The signing took place during a media roundtable event themed “Joint Development, Shared Responsibility: New Image of China Chemical Industry,” in which PPG Asia/Pacific Environment, Health and Safety Director Richard Ren also participated.

”I’m pleased to be part of this milestone for international chemical companies in China,” Lall said. “By having us sign a manifesto, AICM is leveraging the efforts of companies such as PPG to operate in responsible, sustainable ways for the benefit of the industry in China.”

According to AICM, the social responsibility of China’s chemical industry should be jointly shouldered by chemical companies, industry associations and the media. Lall said PPG also regards joining with other chemical companies as necessary to building a “responsible industry image and reputation” in China.

With an investment of more than 100 million USD each year, PPG is committed to making ‘green’ products and pursuing business practices that preserve the environment. EcoLogical Solutions by PPG is a line of environmentally-progressive building products including energy-efficient coated and tinted glasses for commercial and residential construction as well as ENERGY STAR- and volatile organic compound (VOC)-compliant, high-performance coatings and paints. Green Logic paint detackifier by PPG incorporates raw materials derived from crab, lobster and shrimp shells rather than formaldehyde and won a 2008 Automotive News PACE Award. Also, PPG’s Energy Security and Climate Change steering committee develops and implements strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts.
