VICTREX® PEEK™ polymer - a leading material for the aerospace industry
Materials used in the aerospace industry have to satisfy critical criteria. The trend towards larger aircraft with increased capacity is combined with weight restrictions and stricter safety standards which all contribute to the need for materials that are lighter in weight, have excellent mechanical properties and reduced hazards to passengers and crew in the event of fire.
Due to its outstanding mechanical strength, low specific weight and a flammability rating classified to V-0 (UL94), Victrex® PEEK™ polymer has become the material of choice for the aerospace industry and has been approved by a number of leading Aerospace bodies. Glass- or carbon-reinforced Victrex® PEEK™ polymer grades even exhibit greater mechanical resistance than traditional high performance materials, such as aluminium.
The polymer is proven in a wide range of aerospace applications, like this rotor, which has been moulded by Fluorten srl of Castelli Calepio, Italy. With its inherent design flexibility and consistent ease of processing the polymer enables high numbers of large volume components with fine tolerances to be formed and used directly without further modification.
