Breakthrough thermoplastic composite sheet from GE & AZDEL* improves safety & performance for passenger train components

BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS - Like a train on a well-run railroad, new product technology from GE Advanced Materials, a unit of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), and AZDEL, Inc. has arrived just in time to address rising demand for safer, higher performing materials in the passenger rail industry. The new product, called AZDEL Rail-Lite* composite, is a low-pressure, thermoformable, lightweight composite sheet that exhibits excellent flame, smoke, toxicity, and heat-release performance in large semi-structural panels for train interiors. GE & China Long Dragon sign JDA to increase performance, safety of China’s passenger train interiors in advance of Beijing Olympics

BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — GE Advanced Materials, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), has announced a joint development agreement (JDA) with China Railway Long Dragon New Composite Materials Co., Ltd. to co-develop high-strength, flame-retardant (FR) components for passenger train interiors based on new AZDEL* Rail-Lite* composite. The new composite can also help provide interior parts with low smoke and toxicity performance and excellent sound-release properties. Under the agreement, GE will supply the material in multiple grades for potential applications such as interior panels, sidewalls, ceilings, floors, and other large interior train parts.

BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS - GE Advanced Materials has selected Schneller Inc., a leading manufacturer of engineered decorative laminates, to co-develop new grades of Indura™ GTform™ decorative laminate for interior rail applications formed with a AZDEL* Rail-Lite* composite from AZDEL, Inc., a 50/50 joint venture of General Electric Company and PPG Industries. New AZDEL Rail-Lite composite is a low-pressure, thermoformable, lightweight composite sheet that exhibits excellent flame, smoke, toxicity, and heat-release properties. It has been designed to help deliver outstanding, robust performance in combination with reduced weight and enhanced safety for a broad range of interior components for the global rail industry.
