SABIC debuts at NPE 2018 new portfolio of PP compounds for soft feel in automotive interior components
ORLANDO, FLORIDA, May 7, 2018 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, unveiled here today at NPE 2018, booth S19001, a new and growing portfolio of SABIC® polypropylene (PP) compounds that deliver a soft feel combined with excellent scratch performance in unpainted, low gloss automotive interior components. The new SABIC® PP compounds offer the luxurious haptics and finishes that today’s consumers demand – even in lower-priced vehicles. At the same time, these injection molding materials can help automotive OEMs and tiers reduce costs by as much as 50 percent by avoiding secondary operations such as applying soft paint, fabric, foam or other surface covering.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, May 7, 2018 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, is showcasing here at NPE 2018, booth S19001, the success of its collaborative efforts with customer, eNeura Inc. (“eNeura”), in developing a clinically proven, non-drug option for the prevention and treatment of migraine headaches. The sTMS mini® by eNeura® is a physician-prescribed, portable delivery system for single-pulse, transcranial magnetic stimulation. Working with SABIC and PTA Plastics, its injection molder, eNeura selected SABIC’s LEXAN™ polycarbonate (PC) copolymer for the housing of the device. This healthcare-grade material met the company’s stringent requirements for biocompatibility, resistance to impact and household chemicals, light weight for easy handling, and the ability to be precisely color matched. The sTMS mini was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for migraine prevention in 2017, following previous agency clearance in 2014 for acute treatment.

SABIC again expands fast-growing additive manufacturing materials portfolio with launch of three new filaments at NPE 2018
ORLANDO, FLORIDA, May 8, 2018 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, announced here at NPE 2018, booth S19001, the third expansion of its additive manufacturing materials offering within 12 months. Specifically, SABIC is launching three new filaments for fused deposition modeling: ULTEM™ AM1010F filament for general high-temperature applications, including tooling; and ULTEM™ AMHU1010F and LEXAN™ AMHC620F filaments for healthcare applications. These advanced new materials, which can be used for end-use parts as well as prototypes, are key to SABIC’s strategy of extending the scope of additive manufacturing. The company is also applying its broad expertise in materials, processing and design optimization – as well as deep knowledge and experience in healthcare – to enhance additive manufacturing technologies.

SABIC launches at NPE 2018 new formable hard-coated LEXAN™ MARGARD™ FHC sheet for glazing applications to comply with updated ECE R43 safety regulation
ORLANDO, FLORIDA, May 17, 2018 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, introduced here today at NPE 2018, booth S19001, LEXAN™ MARGARD™ FHC10 sheet, the latest addition to the company’s expanding automotive glazing portfolio. This advanced new technology is engineered to comply with the stringent visibility, strength and abrasion resistance requirements of ECE R43 (Regulation No. 43 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations). It features a tough polycarbonate (PC) base with exceptional optical quality, combined with a unique, formable hard coating that is pre-cured sufficiently to allow processing like regular PC sheet. In addition to ECE R43 compliance, LEXAN™ MARGARD™ FHC10 sheet can enable customers to avoid post-coating operations, and gives automotive OEMs and tiers a fresh new option for creating simple, curved glazing designs.
SABIC introduces new THERMOCOMP™ HMD-D series of high modulus ductile compounds to the Americas, Europe at NPE 2018

Initially launched in Asia, these materials, on display at the company’s booth (S19001), expand SABIC’s THERMOCOMP™ portfolio of specialty compounds with high-performance, glass-reinforced polycarbonate (PC) materials. The new series of six grades delivers a unique combination of high modulus and ductility to enable lighter, thinner and stronger parts that advance design innovation and ease of use. They are engineered for challenging structural components in the consumer electronics, healthcare and transportation sectors.
SABIC unveils at NPE 2018 first successful micromolding of IR optical sensor lenses using high-performance EXTEM™ resin
ORLANDO, FLORIDA, May 11, 2018 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, unveiled today at NPE 2018, booth S19001, a major breakthrough in the production of infrared (IR) optical sensor lenses for proximity sensing and gesture recognition in smartphones and other electronics applications using its EXTEM™ thermoplastic polyimide (TPI) resin. SOPROD SA, a Swiss molding company, selected the high-performance SABIC material, which features IR transparency, to mass-produce sensor lenses using micromolding with a multi-cavity tool. Efficient, high-volume molding of EXTEM™ resin can deliver multiple advantages over grinding and polishing of quartz glass and curing of epoxy resin. These benefits can include speed, consistently high quality and the avoidance of costly secondary operations. SOPROD’s achievement offers the electronics industry a new and highly efficient solution to meet accelerating demand for IR optical sensors.
