Clariant expands collaboration with Wanhua Chemical Group

  • CEO Conrad Keijzer pays visit to Wanhua Chemical Group
  • In-depth exchanges on new growth opportunities
  • Clariant reinforces its commitment to the sustainable development of China Chemical Industry

SHANGHAI, July 12, 2024 - During a visit to strategic customer Wanhua Chemical Group, Clariant CEO Conrad Keijzer and his leadership team held talks on expanding business relations. “We see great opportunities to further develop our successful cooperation with Wanhua”, he said. Clariant and Wanhua had signed a strategic cooperation agreement in May 2022.

Conrad Keijzer and his leadership team were welcomed by Liao Zengtai, Chairman of Wanhua Group. Both sides are looking forward to deepen the cooperation, One example is the digital transformation of Clariant’s catalyst services CLARITY which provides fast insights into catalyst performance. This is crucial for optimizing operations and enhancing efficiency across diverse chemical processes.

Clariant also supports Wanhua on its world-scale propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant located in Penglai with its industry leading CATOFIN® catalyst technology. CATOFIN offers excellent reliability and productivity, yielding superior production output, which in turn leads to increased overall profitability for the plant.

“Sustainability development is crucial for Wanhua and for China Chemical Industry,” said Liao Zengtai. “We are happy to deepen our collaboration with Clariant towards Carbon Neutrality.” The perspective and technology of sustainable methanal was one of the key topics. Indeed, Clariant has quite a few CO2 to Methanal projects all overall the world. The innovative MegaMax® catalyst makes it easier to turn CO2 into methanol, which helps produce clean and versatile fuels and chemicals.

“As one of the largest chemical producers in China, Wanhua plays an important role in driving the chemical industry of China towards high-quality development”, said Conrad Keijzer. “We are committed to support with our innovative and sustainable solutions, our world-class operation facilities, as well as our digitalized customer service to grow with Wanhua in this dynamic market.”

The visit started at Wanhua R&D Center and Wanhua University and continued with Penglai Chemical Industrial Park. Leveraging the advantage of wind power homeport, there are 20 green new material production enterprises located in the industrial park with output value more than 7 billion RMB in 2023. “It was impressive to see the industrial park and the professionalism of Wanhua in all their activities”, Conrad Keijzer emphasized. Clariant is happy to support Penglai Chemical Industrial Park towards a low-carbon and sustainable future.
