Royal visit of the BioWanze site
As part of the visit to the Province of Liège organised on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, the Queen visited BioWanze.
The company BioWanze, which has been working with the region's farmers for more than 10 years, is continuing to invest in new technologies that enable and will enable new sustainable opportunities for agricultural production.
The solutions BioWanze offers in terms of greener mobility through the production of renewable ethanol (BioWanze is a subsidiary of CropEnergies, the European leader in sustainable ethanol production) are known already, but less is known about the production of green energy, food, animal feed and green manure. These different outlets have helped to create a real circular ecosystem, in connection with local and regional farmers.
"This royal visit was above all an opportunity to present our new investments to achieve carbon-neutral production," explains André Tonneaux, plant manager. "We presented the virtuous circular economy created between BioWanze and the other facilities of the Südzucker group in Belgium (Raffinerie Tirlemontoise and BENEO). One example is vegetable proteins, produced in close partnership with the sister company BENEO, which are a response to growing consumer demand for plant-based proteins.”
During this event, the delegation present on site showed great interest in BioWanze's objective to be carbon neutral by 2030 by using local biomass in a high-efficiency cogeneration plant.
