SABIC Announces European Launch of THERMOCOMP™ AM Materials for Large Format Additive Manufacturing at Formnext

SABIC has introduced to the European market a new family of high-performance THERMOCOMP™ AM compounds that addresses the unique requirements of large format additive manufacturing (LFAM). Print parameters and mechanical property data for the materials – developed by SABIC using test specimens printed on the company’s in-house BAAM® printer – can significantly aid customers in expediting material selection and optimizing processing. Reinforced with carbon or glass fibers for added strength, the new compounds can be used for applications in the tooling, aerospace, automotive and defense industries.Frankfurt, Germany, November 16, 2017 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, today introduced to the European market a family of high-performance THERMOCOMP™ AM compounds to address the unique requirements of large format additive manufacturing. Here at Formnext 2017, in stand 3.1-G78, the company is exhibiting these eight new compounds, developed for use in large-format pellet-fed extruders. Print parameters and mechanical property data for the materials – developed by SABIC using test specimens printed on the company’s in-house BAAM® printer – are available to aid customers in expediting material selection and optimizing processing conditions. Because they are reinforced with carbon or glass fibers for added strength, the new THERMOCOMP™ AM compounds can be used for demanding applications in the tooling, aerospace, automotive and defense industries.

SABIC Debuts Tough High-Impact LEXAN™ EXL Filament for Fused Deposition Modeling at Formnext 2017

SABIC’s new LEXAN™ EXL AMHI240F filament features a high level of toughness, as well as improved ductility at room temperature and at temperatures down to -30 °C. Compared to competitive PC, this material delivers up to four times better notched Izod impact at room temperature, and up to three times better at -30 °C, depending on print orientation. The filament is initially offered in black, with plans to launch additional colors, including white, in the near future.Frankfurt, Germany, November 15, 2017 - SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, is launching here at Formnext 2017, in stand 3.1-G78, new LEXAN™ EXL AMHI240F filament. This unique product is based on SABIC’s LEXAN™ EXL polycarbonate (PC) copolymer technology, which delivers high impact performance and low-temperature ductility. The new filament addresses the need for higher-performing materials in the industrial sector, and is designed for use in Stratasys® Fortus® Classic industrial printers. It is a potential material of choice for demanding aerospace, consumer electronics and automotive applications. LEXAN™ EXL AMHI240F filament is the first of several new materials with distinctive performance characteristics that the company plans to launch in the coming year.
